Why do we study pronunciation?

To keep our god-fearing heads attached to our bodies...

Judges 12:6
«then they would say to him, "Say now, 'Shibboleth.'" But he said, "Sibboleth," for he could not pronounce it correctly. Then they seized him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. Thus there fell at that time 42,000 of Ephraim.»

More on shibboleth and the
use of language to distinguish social groups, here.

Hehe, good one. When I was in Spain my friends (although I didn't like them at that particular moment ;-)) made fun of my accent. Think of the throat-rolled r instead of the tongue-rolled r.

Now I tackled the R, I feel we communicate more on the same level (although they're Spanish natives and I'm not).
